Buffalo Ranch Tempeh Wings

Good Morning! In honor of the Super Bowl being this weekend I decided to share a recipe for Buffalo Tempeh Wings from the blog, Home by 28 Cooks! To see the recipe click Here!

Im in no way vegan or vegetarian but like to switch up my source of protein from time to time! This was my first time making this recipe and it turned out so good.. even my little brother liked them (I didn’t tell him they were tempeh.. SHHH)! I hate wings that are barely covered in sauce and this recipe is exactly the opposite, full of flavor and crunch in every bite! This recipe is perfect for Super Bowl parties, tailgates or any day for that matter!

This recipe is paleo approved and can be modified to be vegan too!

Buffalo Ranch Tempeh Wings:

  • 1 pkg tempeh
  • 1/3 C. milk, of your choice
  • 1/3 C. Flour, of your choice (I used a blend of tapioca & almond)
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • pepper to taste
  • 1 cup bread crumbs (I used Gillian’s wheat, gluten, soy & dairy free)

Ranch Seasoning:

  • 1 tsp. parsley
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/8 tsp thyme
  • pepper to taste

Wing Sauce:

  • 1/2 C. Hot Sauce (I used Franks)
  • 2 tbsp Butter (I used Kerrygold grass-fed)

Bring 4 cups of water to a boil over high heat. While water boils, slice tempeh into 8-13 strips. Once water is boiling, lower heat to medium high, add tempeh, and boil for 15 minutes. Drain and rinse with cool water.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees & set out 3 bowls. In one, pour in milk. In the second, combine flour, seasonings & ranch dry seasoning. In third bowl, add bread crumbs.
Place each strip in milk. Coat in flour mixture, then re-dip into milk. Toss with panko crumbs, coating well. Set on slightly oiled baking sheet. Once all are coated and on baking sheet, lightly spray all “wings” with cooking spray. Place into oven and bake for 10 minutes. Flip “wings” over and bake for an additional 10 minutes. While they are baking, place wing sauce ingredients in a medium sized bowl. Heat in microwave on medium high setting for a minute and a half. Remove from heat and whisk ingredients together.
When wings are finished baking, toss with sauce. Serve immediately!

To make this recipe Vegan, sub butter for a vegan substitute or coconut oil
